FAQ’S

The House League program holds a series of skills evaluation sessions in the pre-season for anyone who wishes to participate in the House League program. House League players do not need experience playing basketball, just a desire to learn, participate and have fun. Evaluation Weekends for House League players occur at the end of September or beginning of October. Players MUST attend 2 out of the 3 sessions for evaluation: Evaluation Day; Development Clinic #1; and/or, Development Clinic #2. Dates and times will be posted on the website.

Practices take place on weekdays for 1 hour (Monday to Friday) and games for 1.5 hrs take place every Saturday from October to mid March. Total House League Commitment 2.5 hr/week

Practices
The specific practice day/time/gym cannot be confirmed until AFTER the player evaluations are held. Players will be assigned to their individual teams at that time. Practice days and times remain the same for the duration of the season.

Games
House League games take place on Saturdays. Schedules are posted and updated on the website. Parents/guardians are encouraged to check the schedules regularly for possible changes.

NOTE: There are times when the practice/game time requires rescheduling due to school board cancellations or accommodations for tournament requirements. Every effort will be made to have the re-scheduled practice on the same day and time but at a different location.

During the registration process you can, and are encouraged to note any day(s) your child cannot practice. Great care is taken to avoid conflicts when teams are being rostered. We cannot, however, guarantee requests for specific practice nights.

During the evaluations, every attempt is made to accommodate requests made at the time of registration (with unavailable practice nights taking priority). Please note that additional requests for car pooling and friend requests are not priority when assigning teams. Please reach out directly to the convenor for the player’s division if additional support is required for a special request. After initial assignment to a team, all requests to move players are denied for the initial two weeks while team balancing issues are assessed. It will be at this time that we will address any further move requests. Coaches are asked to document and keep these requests handy.
House League season runs from OCT-MAR for a maximum of 18 weeks (this includes the pre-season of 1-2 weekends and 15-18 regular season games).
The GCBA is a volunteer organization and every parent is encouraged to commit to volunteering to help the teams operate. This commitment need not be more than a few hours on an occasional basis, but it is essential. Parents, who are not official volunteers with the GCBA can assist with scoring and timing during the games. Other positions that put volunteers in direct contact with the players will be required to complete the volunteer requirements.
YES! All House League players are guaranteed equal playing time during games.

The GCBA offers several options for players requiring financial assistance with their registration fees; including volunteer service in lieu of payment, and individualized installment plans. We also assist players with applications to the  Canadian Tire’s Jump Start Program and through our own GCBA Wolverines Benevolent Fund.  Please contact your coach or the registrar at [email protected] for more information.

All players must be REGISTERED with the GCBA to participate.
