Introduction

Volunteers are the lifeblood of sport and recreation. Without our committed volunteers, the GCBA would not run, deliver or manage as a sports club. People volunteer at all ages with many different skills and from every sector of society, so if you’ve got some time to spare and have an interest in basketball, we hope you’ll get inspired to get involved with the GCBA.

Useful Information

Volunteer Policy

The Level 3 Vulnerable Sector Check is required by all volunteers in a position of authority or trust relative to vulnerable persons. The following positions, within the GCBA, require a vulnerable sector check to be on file: directors, convenors, coaches, assistant coaches and managers. From time to time this list will be reviewed and updated as required. The Vulnerable Sector Check will be kept on file with the VP Volunteers. Only the VP Volunteers will have access to this information for privacy and confidentiality.

  • Returning Volunteers : On a yearly basis, returning volunteers (vulnerable sector check on file) will be required to complete the Declaration of Offence and the Code of Conduct (for their position)

  • New Volunteers : New volunteers, to the GCBA, will receive a waiver letter, for the appropriate police force, to obtain the Vulnerable Sector Check, free of charge. New volunteers will also receive the Code of Conduct (for their position).

Volunteer Credits

The GCBA provides a credit to volunteers to be used against registration fees for programs sanctioned by the GCBA. Credits will be applied in February/March of each year and will only be applied to those volunteers who have been verified as completing the volunteer requirements (vulnerable sector check and/or declaration of offence and code of conduct).
